Exploring Boston police tests of ‘dog’ robots……..| Hi Tech Blog |

A civil liberties group has asked Massachusetts State Police to explain that how they have been using these dog robots..?

These police robots which we are talking about, is made by Boston Dynamics and according to BBC, the police force has been using these robots for past three months! They were testing “Spot” robot dogs alongside some of its officers. And it’s also believed that they have helped with 2 live incidents as well as training scenarios.

The ACLU(American Civil Liberties Union) wants to know how these robots are used and where?

More details about the robots…….

Boston Dynamics, who made these robots have shared a video online, earlier this year, captioned  as “MA State Police”, where robots were opening doors and entering buildings..
ACLU said, “All too often, the deployment of these technologies happens faster than our social, political, or legal system reacts”. The ‘transparency’ is much required about the use of the robots, like the ways in which they should be used and which officers would be sent with these robots, as mentioned by campaign group in its letter. And also, ACLU suggested that there was a need for regulations governing the use of robots to ensure they do not trample on established civil rights and liberties or lead to racial injustice.

They also want to know if the robots will carry any type of weapon or not whether its melee or ranged weapon. And, in response to this question, MS Police officials stated that the robots are used as a “mobile remote observation device” to look at suspicious devices or locations that may have probability of being hazardous to civilians and human officers.
The video was shared by Boston Dynamics

In Boston’s national public radio station, the police officials stated that these robots have already worked with the organization’s bomb squad. And as already discussed, they have proved helpful in other 2 incidents but the details about it were not provided.  A spokesman from the company said they were not used to “physically harm or intimidate people”.

So, what do you personally think about that “should robots be included in police force?” Let us know in the comment section..
