HPE computers stucked in space…….| Hi-Tech-Blog |

Today, we would talk about a pair of HPE(Hewlett Packard Enterprise) servers. These were sent in space for experimental purpose to the International space which station in August 2017, but they didn’t managed to come again in Earth. Three months passed after the estimated date of return.

About the computers……

HPE architects made a Spaceborne computer, a linux system that has supercomputer processing power. They were sent in space in order to see the durability of the computers with minimal specialist treatment. And they were still working fine after 530 days..!!!

Unfortunately, their return flight was postponed indefinitely because of a Russian Rocket failure in October 2018. HPE senior content architect Adrian Kasbergen claimed that they may return in June 2019 if a flight is sent but “right now they haven’t got a ticket”.

Now, at present, the three 20 year old machines on board the ISS return the data back to Earth for processing but it takes about 30 minutes for the data to travel each way. And this is unlikely to be possible to send the  data back from Mars as Mars and Earth are millions of miles away from each other. And, in addition to that, those three computers  on board ISS as told above had cost $8M each  and it took 10 years to build, according to Mr. Kasbergen. The servers needed some modifications though the air cooling system won’t work in space. Devices would be inspected to find out the problems
